Standard Test Method for Heat Release and Smoke Release Rates of Materials by Oxygen Demand
ASTM E1354 Material Heat Release and Smoke Release Rate Test Standard Name:
ASTM E1354 Method of test for heat and smoke release rates for materials and products using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter
Standard Test Method for Heat Release and Smoke Release Rates of Materials by Oxygen Demand
ASTM E1354 Material Heat Release and Smoke Release Rate Test Reference Index:
(a) Rate of heat release, by measurement of the oxygen consumption, as determined by the oxygen concentration and the flow rate in the exhaust product stream;
(b) Effective heat of combustion from a concomitant measurement of specimen mass loss rate, in combination with the heat release rate;
(c) Smoke release, by obscuration of light by the combustion product stream;
(d) Flammability, Ignitability, as a measurement of time from initial exposure to time of sustained flaming.
ASTM E1354 Material Heat Release and Smoke Release Rate Test Abstract:
This test method is used to determine the flammability, heat release rate, mass loss rate, effective heat of combustion, and visible smoke volume for materials and products.
The main purpose of this test method is to determine the change of heat, or the material causing the fire. It also includes determining the effective heat of combustion, the mass loss rate, the duration of the burn, and the amount of smoke. This attribute identifies small sample sizes that are representative for end use.
